The HCS410/WM is a read/write transponder module in a small, tapered SOT-385 leadless wedge package. HCS410/WM utilizes Microchips patented KEELOQ code hopping technology to create a robust dual-encryption key device that provides high security in an integrated transponder package solution. Applications for the HCS410/WM include access control systems, automotive immobilizers, electronic door locks (for home, office or hotel), burglar alarm systems, proximity access control and authentication of expendable brand-name items. Incorporating the inductor and capacitor components for transponder applications, the turnkey sealed module offers 64-bit user EEPROM accessible through the transponder interface. Additional features include selectable baud rate, anti-collision of multiple transponders, intelligent damping for high Q LC-circuits and asynchronous transponder communication. Using one of two encryption keys, the HCS410/WM provides a 16- or 32-bit bi-directional challenge-and-response authentication in transponder mode for logical and physical access control. The device contains a programmable 32-bit serial number to identify the transponder as well as two 64-bit user-programmable encryption keys. The encryption keys, serial number and configuration data are stored in on-chip EEPROM that is programmed through the transponder interface (contactless). The security information cannot be read by any means unless it is erased first. This protects against attempts to gain access to the memory array and makes these devices very secure. The serial number and user area can be accessed through the transponder interface.
